Maine Media Women will hold its annual meeting Saturday, May 7 at the 1812 Farm on Route 130. The morning business meeting (for members only) will include the election of officers, reports from current officers, a silent auction and the luncheon.

In addition, there will be a presentation of “Jump Lines, “an anthology that has just been published by Maine Media Women in celebration of the organization’s 60th anniversary. The anthology includes stories, essays, poems, photographs and artwork by MMW members.

Following that part of the event, the guest speaker will be Joshua Bodwell, executive director of the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance, a 35-year-old nonprofit organization whose mission is to enrich the cultural life of Maine by supporting the literary arts.

Bodwell served as the associate editor on the founding staff of Maine Home+Design magazine. Prior to that, while a newspaper journalist with the York County Coast Star, Bodwell received awards from the Maine and New England press associations. He is a regular contributor to magazines such as Poets & Writers, Art New England and Down East.   He also is a contributing editor of the online journal Fiction Writers Review.

In 2006, Bodwell was a recipient of the Maine Community Foundation’s Martin Dibner Fellowship for Fiction. His poetry and short stories have appeared in The Threepenny Review, Ambit (London, England), Northern New England Review, Frank (Paris, France), Tears in the Fence (Dorset, England) and many other journals.

The public is invited to attend Bodwell’s presentation, which will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. A suggested donation of $10 dollars will go towards Maine Media Women’s scholarship fund. MMW awards scholarships to high school seniors who are planning to attend college and pursue a career in communication media.

Maine Media Women meets monthly to exchange ideas and information and to offer mutual support and professional recognition to members of the full spectrum of communications careers. For more information, visit mainemediawomen.org or contact Carol Jaeger at sbart@tidewater.net or 563-8377.
