Lincolnville Police Chief Ron Young collected 10.6 pounds of prescription pills during the National Take Back Initiative on Saturday, April 30, at the Lincolnville Police Department.

This was the second effort for citizens to safely dispose of unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs. The event was held in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Agency, and state and local law enforcement agencies to remove potentially dangerous prescription drugs from the public, particularly controlled substances.

According to a press release from the LPD, documented studies show a majority of abused prescription drugs, often sought by teenagers, are obtained from family, friends and household medicine cabinets.
