The home team of young actors took top honors Saturday April 30, at the first-ever Maine Student Acting Competition at Troy Howard Middle School.

The event, spearheaded by THMS English teacher and drama adviser Jason Bannister, attracted nearly 40 middle-school students representing Belfast, Bucksport, Lincolnville, North Haven and Medomak Valley.

Events included solo acting (comedy and drama), duo acting (comedy and drama) and solo/duo musical. Belfast captured first place overall, with Medomak earning second and the Lincolnville third.

Plans are being made for the second MSAC to be held January 2012, at THMS. Bannister said it would include similar categories, as well as group acting and musical divisions. There may also be a division for high school actors, Bannister said.
