Dr. Habib Dagher, director of the Advanced Structures and Composites Center at the University of Maine, will be speaking to elected officials from Searsport, Stockton Springs and Belfast, as well as interested members of the public, Tuesday, May 31, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Belfast City Boathouse, 34 Commercial St.

Dr. Dagher will be speaking about the development of the offshore wind industry in Maine, and the Center’s role in it.  The Center is also the lead organization of the DeepCWind Consortium and a member of the Maine Wind Industry Initiative, two organizations focused on establishing the state of Maine as a leader in offshore wind technology.

“Our three communities have been working together to see that this region is positioned to be the primary location for the development of Maine’s offshore wind industry, taking advantage of our well-trained workforce, high quality of life, and infrastructure such as Mack Point,” said Belfast Economic Development Director Thomas Kittredge, in a press release. “We’ve asked Dr. Dagher to come to excite the public and our elected officials about this industry’s potential to dramatically impact our regional economy in a beneficial way.”

Seating for this free event is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Questions about the event can be directed to Thomas Kittredge, economic development director for the city of Belfast, at economicdevelopment@cityofbelfast.org or 338-3370, ext. 8.
