River Arts has put out a call to artists for its upcoming “Abstract” exhibition to be held June 17 through July 15 at its Main Street gallery. Artists in all media including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, drawing and other art forms, are encouraged to enter their work.

The juror for this show is Laurie E. Hicks, curator of the Lord Hall Galleries and Professor of Art at the University of Maine, Orono. A curator of numerous exhibitions and senior editor of the journal Studies in Art Education, Hicks is an exhibiting artist, organizer of several arts conferences and symposia, recipient of many grants and awards and accomplished author in the arts. She received her doctorate from the University of Oregon and has delivered presentations on the arts at scholarly events throughout the United States and  abroad. She has been active in the National Association of Art Educators, The Maine Arts Education Association and Maine Arts Commission.

Drop off dates for submissions to the “Abstract” show are Friday and Saturday, June 10 and 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the downtown River Arts Gallery, 170 Main St./Business Route 1. Three works may be submitted by each artist for the entry fee of $20, $15 for River Arts members. All works chosen for the show must be for sale during the exhibition.
