New England Celtic Arts will present Nuala Kennedy with Andrea Beaton and Owen Marshall Thursday, June 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Unity College Centre for the Performing Arts, 42 Depot St. There will be a pre-show jam session at 6:30 p.m.; audience members are encouraged to bring their instruments and jam with the artists for a few minutes.

Based in her adopted homeland of Scotland, Irish singer and flute player Kennedy performs a range of material from across the Celtic traditional music repertoires. She also composes her own idiosyncratic brand of music and tours in a variety of lineups from duo and quartet to a nine-piece festival band. Recent collaborative projects included a Scottish tour with Voyage de Nuit, showcasing songs and compositions inspired by flamenco, jazz and traditional music.

Kennedy is touring New England with Cape Breton fiddler Andrea Beaton and Maine’s Owen Marshall of The Press Gang. Beaton, the youngest of generations of Beaton musicians, is making a name for herself in dance halls, concerts, ceilidhs and festivals. Guitarist (and more) Marshall is a highly sought-after accompanist in many genres including Irish, French Canadian, Swedish, and New England dance music.

Tickets are $15. Next up at the Centre is the all-female Girsa Thursday, June 16 at 7:30 p.m. ($15). For more information, call 948-7469 or visit unityme.org.
