Singer/songwriter and guitarist Scot Cannon of Belfast will perform in the Velvet Lounge series Friday, June 10. The music will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rock City Books & Coffee, 328 Main St.

Cannon sings and plays his own acoustic versions of jazz and pop standards, and he also performs from his collection of mildly sarcastic and sometimes moving original songs. Cannon is a Berklee College of Music graduate in arranging, music education and guitar. For the past 25 years, he has toured the East Coast with his mime, music and theater programs for children and adults.

Cannon is privileged to have Dave Young of Gardner, Mass., on bass performing with him. Young is an old friend who has spent the last 30 years playing with bands touring across the country. His improvisational skills and musicality are legendary.

“I sometimes just stop and watch him play, when I should be playing too,” said Cannon, whose websites are scotcannonmusic.com and scotcannon.com.

As usual there is no cover charge; however, tipping the musicians is highly encouraged. For more information, call 594-4123.
