Belfast Maskers will hold a final audition for its summer outdoor production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s comic operetta “Pirates of Penzance” Saturday, June 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Belfast Maskers Waterfront Theater, 43 Front St.

Belfast Maskers will bring some lively, innovative comedic elements to this beloved classic and will present it by the bay in Steamboat Landing Park for nine consecutive night, weather permitting, beginning Thursday, July 28.

Among the roles still to be cast are the Pirate King, which calls for a strong baritone singer with good comedic timing and some degree of athletic ability; the Sergeant of Police, who will have some singing solos and several lines of dialogue; and pirates and policemen of all ages (teen and older, abilities and physical types.

Rehearsals will be outdoors, when weather permits and the park is available, twice a week until the opening approaches, then four nights a week for the last couple weeks. This is a community theater and the process is meant to be fun, while still creating a very professional production.

Belfast Maskers is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide quality theater for and with the community. More information about this and other events can be found at BelfastMaskers.com.
