With the impending consolidation of Georges Valley High School and Rockland District High School close to fruition, when one takes into account the middle school baseball and softball programs, the Mariners of Oceanside High School will have much to look forward to on the diamonds in the coming years.

With the Busline League baseball and softball North Division semifinal playoffs now in the books, both Rockland District Middle School and Thomaston Grammar School teams will be facing off one final time as all four squads advanced to their respective regional finals.

On Monday, the No. 1 TGS softball team posted a 19-16 win over No. 4 Camden-Rockport Middle School, while No. 2 Rockland defeated No. 3 Medomak Middle School 8th 18-6. Additionally, the top-seeded RDMS baseball team bested No. 5 Troy Howard 3-0, while No. 2 TGS also defeated No. 3 CRMS 8th, score available, in the other semifinal.

On Thursday, June 9 in softball, No. 2 Rockland will play at 3:30 p.m. at No. 1 Thomaston, while in baseball, No. 2 Thomaston will also play at No. 1 Rockland at 2 p.m. the same day at Morrill Field.

The South Division semifinals were to be played Tuesday, June 7. In baseball, No. 5 Medomak 7th was to travel to No. 1 Jefferson, while No. 6 Camden 7th was to travel to No. 2 Wiscasset. In softball, No. 3 Great Salt Bay of Damariscotta was to face No. 2 Richmond, while No. 1 Jefferson was to host No. 4 Bristol.

The Busline League championships will be held on Tuesday, June 14, site to be determined.

Thomaston 19, Camden-Rockport 16 … At Thomaston, the Clippers and Schooners put on an offensive show, with the hosts hanging on for a three-run victory in North Division action.

Macy Buck pitched for the Schooners, surrendering 13 hits and 13 walks, while striking out six. Lexi Davis and Rachel Robinson gave up one hit, walked 24 batters and struck out 12 for the Clippers.

Buck had the lone single for the Schooners, while Davis (2 hits), Maci Boutot (2 hits, 2 RBIs), Robinson (2 triples, 5 RBIs), Sam Benner (triple, single, 2 RBIs), Kristen Rasmussen (2 singles), Alex Colson (single), Bailee Cox (2 singles) and Makenna Brooks (single) led the TGS offense.

Rockland 18, Medomak 6 … At Rockland, the Eagles soared to a lopsided victory over the Riverhawks and earned a berth in the North Division final.

Emily Gould belted two home runs and also added a double for RDMS and scored four runs. Payton Billingsley (double, single, 2 runs), Chelsea Williams (2 hits, 4 runs), Ari Curtis (hit, 2 runs), Ashley Gardner (double, single, 2 runs), Anna Mulhearn (single, run), Jackie Thorbjornson (single, run) and Chrissy McNichol (2 singles, run) also had hits for the Eagles.

Billingsley surrendered 10 hits in the pitcher’s circle for the Eagles, while Hannah Marks and Megan Sykes pitched for the Riverhawks. Olivia Ryan (triple, single, 2 runs), Hannah Watmough (2 singles, run), Marks (triple, 2 singles, 2 runs) and Kayleigh Curtis (hit, run) keyed MMS’ offense.


Rockland 3, Troy Howard 0 … At Rockland, the Eagles got a superb pitching performance from hurler Nick Mazurek as the hosts moved on to the North Division finals.

Mazurek tossed a complete-game, one-hitter while striking out an impressive 15 batters to lead RDMS to the victory. He also helped his own cause at the plate, rapping a double, a single and scoring a run.

Also contributing to the Rockland offense were Keenan Hendricks (double, run), Nate Philbrook (single), Ryan Allender (single, run) and Zack Roman (double). For Troy Howard, Tyler Laplante supplied the team’s lone hit.
