Rock City’s Velvet Lounge series offers live music both Friday and Saturday, June 24 and 25. The music will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rock City Books & Coffee, 328 Main St.

On Friday, Tango joyfully returns to The Velvet Lounge, one of the Waldo County duo’s favorite places to play — “We love the patrons, the employees, the vibe, the great big windows overlooking the city,” said vocalist Kristen Burkholder and pianist Martin Gottlieb, who specialize in tunes from the great American songbook.

On Saturday, the Velvet Lounge welcomes Pitch Black Ribbons. Brothers Clint and Cody Phipps have been playing and writing music together since they could talk, walk and juggle. As their river of a thousand-or-so original songs kept getting deeper and wider, they realized that the variety of music they wanted to play transcended the hard rock format of their previous releases. In an attempt to develop some new ideas, they have gone back to basics as the acoustic duo Pitch Black Ribbons.

As usual, there is no cover charge; however, tipping the musicians is highly encouraged.  For more information, call 594-4123.
