Lennie Gallant, recognized by his peers as one of Canada’s best performing songwriters, will perform Thursday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Unity College Centre for the Performing Arts, 42 Depot St. A pre-concert jam session will begin at 6:30 p.m.; bring instruments.

Gallant is a native of Prince Edward Island now living in Nova Scotia. The prolific songwriter has recorded nine albums, in English and French, that have won him a host of awards and nominations from both the JUNOs and East Coast Music Awards. His album “When We Get There” went into space aboard Space Shuttle Endeavour in July 2009, thanks to Canadian astronaut Julie Payette. His latest, “If We Had A Fire,” won 2010 Roots Recording of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards.

Gallant has shared the stage with such accomplished songwriters as Lucinda Williams, Roger Hodgson (Supertramp), Patti Griffin and Ron Sexsmith and has represented Canada at songwriter events in Nashville, London and Texas.
