Claire K. Banks, of Belfast, was named to the dean’s list at Bates College as a result of her scholastic standing during the fall and winter semesters of the 2010-2011 academic year.

Banks, an Art and Visual Culture major, is a 2008 graduate of Belfast Area High School. Banks is the child of Janette Crosby Banks of Belfast.

Her undergraduate activities include: Seed, a student-run arts and literary magazine; Student Committee on Committees; and College Lecture Series.

Bates was founded in 1855 by Maine abolitionists, and Bates graduates, according to a press release from the college, have always included men and women from diverse racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds. Today, the college reports, about 40 percent of students participate in career internships, and more than two-thirds of recent graduates enroll in graduate study within 10 years after graduation.
