University of Maine alumni and their guests are invited to A Maine Art Evening Tuesday, June 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Eric Hopkins Gallery, 21 Winter St., Suite 2. This is the first gathering of Midcoast alumni for this year.

Sponsored by UMaine Mid Coast Alumni and the Eric Hopkins Gallery, the evening will feature short talks by renowned Maine artist Eric Hopkins; George Kinghorn, director and curator of the University of Maine Museum of Art in Bangor; and Susan Groce, professor of art and chair of the UMaine Department of Art.

Reservations at $20, which includes beverages and hors d’oeuvres, may be made by sending a check payable to UMaine Mid Coast Alumni to Patricia Taggart, treasurer, P.O. Box 205, Bath ME 04530 by Friday, June 24.

“We would especially like to reach Maine alumni who may be spending the summer on the coast or visiting in the region as they may not have the opportunity to connect with the university at their home locations,” said Joy Jewett Johnson ’68, chairwoman of events, of Harpswell.

This alumni group has provided nine book scholarships to coastal UMaine students in the last three years from funds raised at alumni gatherings. A drawing will be held at the art evening to benefit these scholarships. For more information, contact Johnson at galofgrog@yahoo.com or 720-0225.
