Waldo County General Hospital held a recognition luncheon at Penobscot Shores Thursday, June 23 to honor employees on their fifth-year anniversaries or those with 10 of more years of service.

There were 29 employees honored for five years of employment; another 29 for 10 years of service; 10 for 15 years; 14 for 20 years; six for 30 years; one for 35 years (Sue Drinkwater, RN) and two for 40 years of employment at the hospital (Donna Fish, MLT, and Diane Nickerson, CNA).

Another 50 employees were honored for having worked at the hospital for at least 21 years, with one employee, Faye Ward, having worked at the hospital for 42 years.

Lee Woodward, president of the hospital’s Board of Directors, handed out bonus checks to those celebrating five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 or 40 years of employment. He said years ago, the hospital had a high turnover rate and decided then that this was a way to close the revolving door.

In the past few years, the hospital has been recognized for its low turnover rate, which is below both the state and national averages.

Woodward said now the compliment he hears most often about the hospital is the high quality of its employees and how nice it is to see familiar faces when you need to visit the hospital for care.
