The Acadia Institute of Oceanography in Seal Harbor has announced that Molly Samuels, a Searsmont resident who will be a junior at Belfast Area High School this fall, will attend a summer session in Marine Studies from July 24-Aug. 5.

Molly, daughter of Matt Samuels, was recommended for admittance to this program by Elizabeth Baker.

The AIO program, according to a press release from the institute, is a full field-study of tidal pools, estuaries, salt marshes, sand beaches and offshore sampling. All phases of oceanography are explored. Laboratory facilities provide space and instrumentation for special marine projects.

It is hoped that the program participants will enter careers in marine biology, fisheries’ management, marine advisory and related fields that are responsive to ocean resources.
