On Saturday, July 30, the Belfast Co-op is hosting a trip to Avena Botanicals two-acre organic, biodynamic gardens in Rockport. Transportation will be provided by Waldo CAP, departing from the Belfast Co-op at 9 a.m. and returning by 1 p.m. Seating is limited; pre-registration is required. The cost is $10, which covers transportation expenses. To sign-up, visit the Belfast Co-op, or call (207) 338-2352.

The tour includes a medicinal herb garden walk and talk hosted by Avena Botanicals owner, herbalist Deb Soule. Over 125 common and unusual medicinal herbs grow in Avena’s gardens. Intermingled with the herbs are a variety of flowering trees and annual and perennial flowers that feed the pollinators.

Avena Botanicals Herbal Apothecary is adjacent to the medicinal herb gardens. Herbal remedies may be purchased in their shop after touring the gardens. Tea and cookies will be served. Participants are invited to bring a snack or lunch to eat on the bus ride home.
