Lloyd M. Hooper Sr., of Thomaston, went home to be with the Lord July 14, 2011 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center where he was surrounded by family and friends.

Born Dec. 11, 1935, he was the son of Forrest and Georgianna Dean Hooper. He was educated in Rockland schools, and worked for Fisher Engineering for several years before heading to New Bedford to go scallop fishing. Lloyd loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, building and renovating houses. More recently he enjoyed playing skip-bo with family and friends. He volunteered his labor of love in building Grace Bible Fellowship in Rockland, and Abundant Grace Fellowship in Searsmont, where he was a current member.

He enjoyed his trips to Florida visiting with his oldest son Rick and wife, Ginny, and his cousin, Stanley, and wife Joyce. Lloyd also enjoyed going to country music shows with his brother, Leon.

He was predeceased by three brothers: Forrest Hooper Jr., William Hooper, and Leon Hooper; a sister, Mabel, and her husband, George Maker; sister Gloria Merrifield; and great-grandson Joshua Michaud.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley J. (Makie) Hooper, of Thomaston; his daughter, Joyce, and her husband, Omar Brown, of Thomaston; son Lloyd Jr. and wife Virginia Hooper, of Palm Bay Fla.; son Douglas and wife Janice Hooper, of Warren; sister Linda and husband, Richard Monroe, of Warren; brother George and wife Thelma Hooper, of Bryant Pond; sisters-in-law Barbara Hooper, of Warren, Patricia Hooper of Machias, and Carol Hooper, of Burketville; and brother-in-law Richard Merrifield and companion Katie Wiley, of Camden; seven grandchildren: Jessica and husband, Adam Ripley; Lacey and husband Matt Tripp; Krista Jewell; Angie and husband Robbie Fish; Christopher Hooper; Theresa Hooper; Joshua Hooper; and three step-grandchildren, Missy Mcguire, Janey Keene and Mike Horton; 15 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends Carolyn and Bryce Smallwood.

A celebration of his life will be held Monday July 18, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Abundant Grace Fellowship Rt 131 in Searsmont with Pastor Peter Sheff officiating. Burial will be held immediately following at the Rockville Cemetery next to his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Abundant Grace Fellowship Rt 131 Searsmont, ME 04973.
