Craig Herbert, son of Dianne and Scott Herbert and great-grandson of Howard and Doris Blood Herbert, was awarded the Rafe and Lucy Blood Family Reunion Scholarship on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at the home of Bill and Becky Vachon in Morrill. Craig will be attending Husson University in Bangor in the fall, majoring in criminal justice.

Trophies were also awarded after a rousing game of horseshoes, won by Dale Blood of Belfast and Terry Whitney of Morrill.

Eighty-seven members of the Blood family gathered at the Vachon home with many members traveling from out of state. They participated in the annual auction, which was presided over by Stanley Blood of Belfast, and Becky Blood Vachon. The auction raised funds for the scholarship and expenses of the reunion. A jump house provided much enjoyment for the children and lunch included the wonderful desserts provided by the families.

A business meeting conducted by Becky Blood Vachon started the afternoon activities. It included a moment of silence for deceased members, introductions of families and presentation of gifts to the oldest man, Howard Herbert, 89; youngest child, Hazel Evelyn Paradis, 2 weeks old; largest family in attendance, Robert Blood Family, with 31 present; and family who traveled the farthest, Joseph, Kevin and Rachel Vachon of Manchster, N.H. Cookbooks and genealogy books were distributed to those who were not present at previous reunions. An album of photographs of past reunions was shown to the families and Dianne Herbert offered to digitize the album so all families would have a copy for the next reunion.

The 2012 reunion will be held at the home of James and Casie Paradis in Newfield.
