Penobscot Theatre, a professional theater company, will hold an open call audition for the upcoming 2011-12 season Sunday, July 31 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Bangor Opera House, 131 Main St.

Penobscot Theatre is looking for actors and singers of all types and ages, and the day will serve as an initial audition for the entire season. Callbacks will be held throughout the rest of the year as the specific shows approach. Those who wish to be considered for the spring productions are strongly encouraged to attend this audition.

Roles that are being specifically sought immediately for the fall plays are as follows. For “Last Gas” by John Cariani (Sept. 9 through 25), Troy — 16-years-old, athletic.  Although still in high school, he looks like a man and is described as being full of potential.  Looking for an actor who is actually 18-plus years old to play “younger.”

For “The Marvelous Wonderettes” (Oct. 26 through Nov. 13), female singer/actor/dancers who can convincingly play 18 to 28 years of age. Wide vocal range and dance ability are required.

For “A Christmas Story” (Dec. 2 through 23), five boys and two girls ranging in age from 8 to 12 to play Ralphie and his friends. No singing is required.

Adults must prepare a monologue and bring a resume to the auditions; those auditioning for the musicals must prepare 32 bars of a musical theater song as well. An accompanist will be provided.  Please note that singers will only be seen from 2 to 4 p.m. on the audition day. Children who do not have a monologue will be provided with selections from the script to work on and present on the day of the audition.
