On Tuesday, August 2 at 6:30 p.m. the Belfast Free Library will host a slide talk given by three area teachers who traveled through China and the Tibetan areas of Sichuan this past April.

Marion Mitchell and Nancy Killoran, teacher and coordinator, respectively, for the English as a Second Language program in RSU 13 (Rockland/Thomaston area), and Maura DiPrete, science teacher from Searsport District High School, traveled to China at the invitation of a high school exchange student, LiPing Zheng, whose family lives in HouYu, a small town in Fujian Province in southern China.

They traveled to Beijing, the Great Wall and the Forbidden City, Xi’an, Sichuan and its capital Chengdu, as well as to important Buddhist sites; mountains, lamaseries, and villages of eastern Tibet; the ethnic region of Kham, and the backdoor to Yunnan.

It was their goal to document the trip through images and share this cultural experience with the public when they returned. The slide talk will highlight their journeys and what the three discovered about this very beautiful and diverse part of the world. The student who invited the three teachers, LiPing Zheng, will also be present at the talk.

This program is free and open to the public. For more information call the library at 33803884 ext.10.
