In 2010, a steering committee was appointed by Palermo residents to coordinate the formation of a Sheepscot Lake Association. That committee has now completed its work.

Most important in the steps to form the association, according to a press release from the group, was developing the bylaws defining the organization’s objectives and how it will be managed.

The committee worked through last summer and earlier this summer and the results of their efforts will be presented to interested citizens on Wednesday, July 27, followed, at that same meeting, by a membership sign-up for those wishing to support the objectives of the organization.

Annual dues have been set at $20. Those who do join will then formalize acceptance of bylaws and elect the directors, who will become the association’s management team.

The community is invited to attend this important inaugural meeting and support their neighbors in efforts to preserve, enhance and protect the beauty of Sheepscot Lake and its adjacent areas. Only through the support of concerned and informed property owners, neighbors and citizens of Palermo, according to the press release, will people be able to manage the problems confronting the lake.

The meeting will be held Wednesday, July 27 at the American Legion Hall on Turner Ridge Road, across from the ball field. The meeting will begin with refreshments at 6:30 p.m., and at 7:15 p.m., there will be a presentation of bylaws, and a new member sign-up, followed by a membership vote to approve the bylaws and elect directors.
