A 30-year-old Belfast man was arrested Saturday, July 23 after he allegedly destroyed the contents of a woman’s apartment but told police he had no memory of what happened.

Kean Ripley, 30, of Belfast was arrested on a charge of criminal mischief after an incident that was reported at an apartment on Ryan Road Saturday evening.

Belfast Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham said a female called to report that Ripley was “destroying the apartment.”

When police arrived at the apartment complex, a neighbor reported they had witnessed Ripley outside the building attempting to break a shelf that he had apparently brought out from the apartment, Cunningham said.

The woman who called to report the incident was not hurt, Cunningham said.

“He didn’t touch her, he just stove the place up,” said Cunningham.

Among the items police found broken inside the apartment, Cunningham said, was a rug that Ripley allegedly cut up during the incident. The rug alone, said Cunningham, was valued at about $400.

Cunningham said Ripley told police he had returned to the apartment earlier in the day and had taken a nap. Ripley said when he awoke from his nap, the apartment was destroyed, and Cunningham said Ripley had no memory of what occurred inside the apartment.

Ripley was arrested and taken to the Waldo County Jail. He is scheduled to appear at Fifth District Court in Belfast Tuesday, Aug. 16.
