Meta “Pete” Kelley, born Jan. 25, 1934, died Thursday, July 21, 2011 at the Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland. She was the daughter of Katharyn Norris and Stillman Francis Kelley II.

She is survived by her two sisters, Priscilla Kelley Sadler and Edith K. Kelley Manns; her brother, Stillman Randolph Kelley; two nephews, Stillman Randolph Kelley Jr. and Richard Lee Kelley; two nieces, Pamela Norris Kelley Oser and Patricia Ann Kelley Schmidt; and eight grand-nephews and grand-nieces.

Very special people in her life were her caring friends, Gerry Yeaman of Charlottesville, Va., Sandra Everton of Crozet, Va., and Nina Weed Moss of Camden.

For more than 50 years, Meta taught riding and equestrian care to children and young adults in western Albemarle County at her Hardendale West Stables in Ivy, Va. Profoundly caring of all wildlife, she provided food and shelter to many stray animals until homes were found for them. Generous and trusting of people, her humor and spirit were with her for the duration of her lifetime.

She will join her family at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Mass. Your warm thoughts and memories of her are alone a generous gift.
