Fishtank Ensemble will return Saturday, Aug. 6 at 8 p.m. at the Unity College Centre for the Performing Arts, 42 Depot St.

Before the show, there will be a Garden Fiesta Community Meal at the Unity Community Center from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Diners can roll their own burritos or design their own salads with fresh local ingredients. Lemonade, minty tea and desserts also will be available. Dinner is by donation of $5 to $15, to benefit the Veggies for All Project that grows food for local food banks.

Formed in 2005 and playing everywhere from the hippest LA clubs to festivals, cultural centers, museums, parades and even on the street, the band includes two explosive violins, a world-class slap bass, musical saw, flamenco and gypsy jazz guitar, trombone, opera, jazz and gypsy vocals, accordion and one little banjolele. The dynamic, virtuosic, fiery and peripatetic quartet that comprises Fishtank Ensemble take their roots both from their own varied musical and national backgrounds, as well as from their adventures and travels. Tackling everything from French hot jazz to wild Serbian and Transylvanian gypsy anthems, flamenco and oddball originals, the band is not to be missed for world music lovers.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door or online at unitymaine.org. Next up will be Quebecois ensemble De Temps Antan Thursday, Aug. 11 at 7:30 p.m. ($15). For more information call 948-7469 or visit the website.
