Beyond the Sea Gallery-Café, 74 Main St., invites everyone to the BelfastArts Friday art walk and its pink champagne reception for Ian Bruce’s exhibit of new works, “In the Wind and Sun.” The opening reception with complementary fare will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5; the show will continue through Sept. 6.

Bruce was born and brought up in South Africa. He was accepted for entry into the Michealis School of Art but instead — due to a lack of funds, a desire for adventure and a hatred of the apartheid regime — he left for Europe on his 19th birthday, working his passage on a cargo vessel. While backpacking around Europe, he occasionally sold paintings and drawings in the street for eating money.

Bruce’s talent is applied to a range of media including oils, watercolor and acrylics. For more information, call 338-2100.
