The Novel Jazz Septet will celebrate the release of its second CD, “Ellington & Strayhorn Rediscovered,” Thursday, Aug. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Opera House of Boothbay Harbor, 86 Townsend Ave. The show will be dedicated to the great works of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, two pillars of the jazz world.

Novel Jazz will play both well-known standards plus lesser-known compositions, recently transcribed from original scores at the Smithsonian and arranged for the band.  Performing will be Barney Balch on trombone, Bruce Boege of Northport on saxophone, Mike Mitchell on trumpet, Mickey Felder on piano, Dave Clark of Belfast on guitar, Herb Maine on bass and Billy Friederich on drums.
