Deadline for Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association’s third annual People’s Choice photography contest, open to all who want to share their favorite images from the Sheepscot Watershed, is Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Cash prizes will be $100 for first place, $50 for second and $25 for third. The winning photographs will be determined by popular vote of those attending SVCA’s third annual Champagne on the Sheepscot fundraising event Saturday, Sept. 10. The winners will be announced that evening.

Each person may submit two photographs of any subject so long as it is in the Sheepscot watershed. Each photograph (ideally 8-by-10 inch format) must be mounted on 9-by-11 inch foamcore (3/16-inch thick) and preferably shrink-wrapped. The title of the image and the photographer’s name, address, phone number and email address must be printed legibly on the back.

The entry must be received by 4 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association office at 624 Sheepscot Road, Newcastle, ME 04553. For more information,  send email to or call 586-5616. All images may be used by SVCA, with attribution.

The Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association is a member organization advocating shared stewardship of Maine’s 58-mile Sheepscot River since 1969. Today, more than 3,540 acres and 15 miles of riverfront are protected.  The SVCA’s ongoing monitoring of water quality helps ensure the watershed’s ecosystems stay healthy, including its Atlantic salmon habitat. SVCA’s mapping services, technical support and educational programs encourage prudent land use so the resources people value today are conserved forever. For more information, visit
