Jacqueline A. (Currier) Mortland of Unity and Belfast died peacefully on Friday, Aug. 12, 2011 at Waldo County General Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born in Wolfeboro, N.H., on May 26, 1928. She graduated from Laconia High School and then attended the University of New Hampshire where she earned her Bachelors degree in Home Economics. She later went on to receive her Masters degree in Guidance at the University of Maine Orono.

During a brief teaching career at Potter Academy she met and married Donald F. Mortland of Searsport. After her marriage she pursued a career in Library Sciences working at Carver Memorial Library in Searsport, Gordon Nash Library in New Hampton, N.H., and Unity College Library in Unity.

For many years she was active in the Unity Union Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and staffed the nursery.

She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Verna Currier, and her sister, Janice Currier.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Donald; and her devoted children, Deborah Woodbury and husband Michael of Morrill, and Pamela Mortland and life partner Anita Ballou of Milton, Mass.

She also leaves her grandchildren who were the light of her life, Jennifer, Laura, Kelsey, and Reid and his wife Regina. In addition she leaves two very special great-grandchildren, Riley and Anna Woodbury, who brought her great joy.

She is also survived by her sister Beverly Maheux and her husband Alfonse, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to both the staff at The Residence at Tall Pines and the nursing staff of the Hospice wing at Waldo County General Hospital for the loving care they provided.

Private services were held at Young’s Funeral Home on Monday, Aug. 15.
