A series of benefit events will be held locally this month to support Jess Connor, a 29-year-old mother of three, who was recently diagnosed with a rare brain disorder called Chiari Malformation 1. There are no doctors in the state of Maine who specialize in this condition. She will be treated for her condition in New York and Boston instead.

First, a public spaghetti dinner will be held on Friday, Aug. 26, from 4-7 p.m.  at the Belfast VFW. The cost is $5 per person for adults and $3 per child. For more information, contact Darlene Sylvester at 505-5463.

Next will be a benefit auction presented by Bumpa’s Antiques & Collectibles Auctions on Saturday, Aug. 27 starting at 5 p.m. at the Searsport Lions Club. Donations of items will be accepted until Friday, Aug. 26 at noon.

If you would like to donate your new or used items that are still in decent condition, or if you are a business who would like to donate goods or gift certificates, contact 505-5263. Pick-up of your donated items may be arranged free of charge locally.

Also, MT Bottles redemption center will donate 6 cents per bottle at their redemption center on the Mount Ephraim Road in Searsport. Just tell them you wish to donate your bottles to Jess Connor and the Chiari fund.

Ladies Night Express will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20, at 5 p.m. at the American Legion hall in Belfast. Men are welcome from 6-8 p.m. For more information on this event, contact Tammi-Lyn Sears at 596-3502.

More events will be planned within the next couple of months.
