Summer is winding to a close and the first days of high school classes are a few weeks away. That can only mean one thing: It is time to play some field hockey.

The annual Coastal Field Hockey Play Day Championships will take place at Camden Hills Regional High School Tuesday, Aug. 23, beginning at 10 a.m.

The tournament will feature teams from Belfast, Mount View of Thorndike, Oceanside of Rockland, Brunswick and host Camden Hills. Mount View has won the annual event the past two seasons.

Scoring for the event is five points for each goal scored, while one point will be awarded to the shooting team for a shot on goal saved by the goalie. The tournament champion will be determined by the total number of points compiled in all four games, with the trophy presentation set to begin at 3 p.m.

The annual event typically showcases a handful of local varsity teams, with four of the five teams fitting that description. New to the tournament this year is Class A Brunswick, which finished 8-6 in the regular season and was the No. 7 seed for the Eastern Class A playoffs a season ago. The Dragons fell to No. 2 Messalonskee of Oakland in the playoffs.

All the other teams in the Windjammer-hosted play day toil in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B and Eastern Class B.

The play day schedule includes: Camden Hills versus Belfast, 10 a.m.; Oceanside versus Mount View, 10:30 a.m.; Brunswick versus Oceanside, 11 a.m.; Mount View versus Camden Hills, 11:30 a.m.; Oceanside versus Belfast, noon; Brunswick versus Mount View, 12:30 p.m.; Oceanside versus Camden Hills, 1 p.m.; Belfast versus Brunswick, 1:30 p.m.; Mount View versus Belfast, 2 p.m.; and Camden Hills versus Brunswick, 2:30 p.m.
