A local man was reportedly uninjured after he was struck by a pickup truck while trying to cross a street in downtown Searsport Aug. 19, according to police.
Searsport Police Chief Dick LaHaye said 76-year-old Robert Barnes of Searsport was walking along Main Street (Route 1) in the vicinity of Mortland Road Friday. At the same time, 41-year-old Stephen Sprague of Brooks was trying to turn right from Mortland Road onto Route 1. LaHaye said Sprague “never saw” Barnes as he pulled out from the intersection, and as a result, Barnes was knocked to the ground, landing on his backside.
Barnes was checked out by Searsport Ambulance personnel at the scene, LaHaye said, and did not require additional medical attention. Sprague’s pickup truck did not receive any damage, either, according to LaHaye.
