The Belfast Flying Shoes Contra Dance series is held every first Friday at the American Legion Hall Post #43, 143 Church St. The Sept. 2 event will begin 6:30 p.m. with a community dance led by caller Chrissy Fowler with music by The All-Comer’s Band. Fun and simple dances will be taught and both beginner and experienced dancers are encouraged to brush up on and learn new skills. All musicians are welcome to sit in; for more information, visit belfastflyingshoes.org/AllComers.html.

At 7:30 p.m., there will be a break for the Tasty Treat Potluck of savory or sweet finger snacks. At 8 p.m., the monthly contra dance will begin. This month’s tunes will be provided by Crowfoot, which weaves musical influences from England, Ireland, Quebec and the Appalachian Mountains into a captivating fusion that delights dancers and listeners alike. Into this meeting ground of traditions, they incorporate their own distinctive original compositions and songs. Belfast’s Fowler will call.

Admission for the community dance is $2 for adults and $1 for children. Admission for the contra dance is $8 for adults and $6 for teens and those who attended the community dance. Anyone who brings a box fan for the windows gets a dollar discount. Dancers should bring drinking water and non-street shoes. For more information, call 338-0979 or visit belfastflyingshoes.org.
