The following is a synopsis of the 2011 Belfast Area High School varsity field hockey squad:

Team: Belfast field hockey.

Coach/years coached current team: Allen Holmes, 39th year.

Last year’s record/playoff information: 7-3-3, No. 6 seed in Eastern Class B. Lost to No. 3 Nokomis of Newport 2-1 in overtime in the quarterfinals.

Roster: Seniors Brooklyn Curry (defense), Britt Mellor (defense), Kari Osgood (offense), Kristi Osgood (offense), Kendra Kirby (offense), Emily Blood (defense), Krissy Martin (defense), Ally James (offense) and Sierra Wood (goalie); juniors Katrina Lapham (defense), Lexi Nelligan (offense), Logan Blood (offense), Courtney Drinkwater (defense), Kaysea Harford (defense), Makaila Gould (defense) and Julia Ward (goalie); and sophomores Madison Cummings (offense), Kelsey Grass (offense), Kristine Mehuren (offense) and Savana Wood (defense).

Graduation losses: Kasey Laveway, Helene Wallace, Sasha Small, Rosie LaCivita, Paxton Mohney, Lauren Rice, Ashland Hall and Lauren Martin.

Significant impact players: Wood, Ward, Lapham, Curry, Mellor, Blood, Kari Osgood, Kristi Osgood, Curry, James, Nelligan and Cummings.

Team strengths: Communication, passing, depth and versatility.

Team goals: To qualify for the Eastern Class B playoffs, to be competitive and secure home field advantage for the playoff.

Top league opponents: Nokomis of Newport, Gardiner, Waterville, Winslow, Camden Hills and Mount View of Thorndike.

Outlook: “Every coach is optimistic,” said Holmes. “We want to do just as well as we can every practice and every game, get into the playoffs, be playing our best [field] hockey at that time and hopefully upset as many teams as we can.”
