With the 2011-12 school year officially under way, a pair of Waldo County schools hit the links Tuesday afternoon to begin their golf seasons, with Belfast and Mount View each taking part in their first matches.

The Lions earned a home victory over Waterville at Northport Golf Club, while the Mustangs were upended by visiting Leavitt of Turner at Country View Golf Course in Brooks.

Belfast 8, Waterville 1 … At Northport Tuesday, the Lions (1-0) roared to their first victory of the season in convincing fashion over the visiting Purple Panthers (0-1). Belfast’s Jamie Jackson (40) was the medalist in the match.

The individual results from Tuesday’s match, with Lions listed first, were: Jamie Jackson (40) defeated Jimmy Lavin (53); Tim Sticht (44) beat Will Bolduc (58); Tyler McDevitt (46) bested Dillon Davis (64); Allie Njaa (55) downed Allison Scully (81); and Jack Smith (55) defeated Molly Brown (78).

In exhibition play, Grant Starret (70) lost to Lauren Hallenback (69).

Leavitt 7, Mount View 2 … At Brooks Tuesday, the Mustangs (0-1) dropped their first match of the season to the visiting Hornets (1-0). Mount View’s Erik Larrabee (41) was the medalist in the match.

The individual results, with Mustangs listed first, were: Larrabee (41) defeated Tyler Walton (45); Zach Holman (54) lost to Tony Landry (47); Owen Freeman (54) lost to Matt Bilodeau (44); Dan Muther (53) defeated Justin Bean (55); Montana Maynard (58) fell to Brian Hiscock (46); and Joel Poulin (60) was bested by Zach Richardson (47).
