Waldo County General Hospital has a new nephrologist, who will be coming onboard fulltime Sept. 16.

Dr. Mark Vannorsdall, who is board-certified in internal medicine and nephrology, will be working with dialysis patients at DCI and will also be seeing patients one or two days a week in Suite 118 at the hospital and occasionally at Pen Bay Medical Center.

Dr. Vannorsdall, who did both his residency and a fellowship at Maine Medical Center in Portland, practiced at Eastern Nephrology Associates in Greenville, N.C., for the past 10 years. While there, he became the medical director and also developed an interventional nephrology fellowship training program.

Before entering medical school at Brown University in 1992, Dr. Vannorsdall worked in business but he decided to attend medical school because he liked the science of medicine and the challenge of helping people with complex medical conditions.

Dr. Vannorsdall says he always wanted to return to Maine with his family after his training in Portland. He says he is impressed with WCGH’s commitment to quality care and its impressive patient satisfaction rating.

He, his wife and four children are living in Camden.

Dr. Vannorsdall’s office number is 930-6721. A referral from your primary care provider is required.
