Jay Barrows, 65, died surrounded by his family, following an extended illness, Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at his home.

Born in Camden on July 30, 1946, he was the son of Edgar and Caroline Burns Barrows. Growing up in Rockport he attended local schools, including Rockport High School.

In 1965, following high school, Jay married Donna Pierce, his high school sweetheart, in Rockport. Together they made their home in Rockport until Jay was drafted into the U.S. Army. Jay served overseas in Vietnam and was discharged in 1968.

For most of his career he worked in the automotive industry, both as a mechanic and in auto body repair. He had a passion for cars, and took great joy in building street rods from scratch.

He was an outdoorsman at heart and loved spending time on his boat and taking his family fishing. He took great pleasure in going four-wheeling, and looked forward to each hunting season with anticipation.

Most recently, Jay has been employed as an over-the-road truck driver, hauling 18-wheelers.

Predeceased by his parents, Jay is survived by his wife, Donna, of South Thomaston; his son, Randy and his wife, Christina, of Lincolnville; his daughters, Jodi Perry and her husband, Travis, and Bethany Barrows and her companion Rob Barter, all of South Thomaston; an adopted daughter, Megan Auger of North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Jacob Perry, Matthew Perry, Gabe Perry, Tony Baudanza, Lyric Barrows, Madelyn Barrows and Abigail Auger; two step-grandchildren, Walter and Jason; four siblings, Rosemary, Lois Jean, Paul and Wayne; one special brother, Jeff Barrows and his wife, Lillian, of Union, who have both been very helpful and supportive over the last two years of Jay’s illness; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Jay’s family would also like to thank his nurses Jacki and Dena who took such great care of him.

At Jay’s request, no services will be held.
