Searsport’s annual “Fling Into Fall” celebration is seeking artistic, whimsical, and spooky entries for its annual scarecrow and jack-o’-lantern competitions. The event is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 7-8.

In the scarecrow competition, awards will be given in four categories: business and community groups; children 12 and under; families; and individuals. For the pumpkin carving contest, the categories are children 12 and under, and adults.

Creativity is encouraged in both competitions — don’t be limited by traditional ideas of what a scarecrow or jack-o’-lantern should look like. Businesses are especially welcome to participate by sponsoring community organizations and children’s groups.

Entries are to be delivered or set up on Friday, Oct. 7, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Ribbons and awards will be presented Saturday, Oct. 8, at 4:30 p.m. For more information, contact Kendra Newcombe at 548-2762.

Other Fling Into Fall events will be held throughout downtown Searsport, including live music, a crafts sale, a public supper, an antique car show and a parade. More details will be announced soon.
