Ruth Avis (Littlefield) Stone, 87, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by her family at Waldo County General Hospital, on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011. She was born on Sept. 8, 1924, in Prospect, daughter of Walter and Bessie (Seekins) Littlefield.

Ruth was dedicated to her family and devoted to raising her children and grandchildren. She was active in the family chicken business. She played an integral role in the organization of the West Frankfort Fire Department and was an active member ever since it began. She was an active member of the North Searsport Methodist Church. She touched many lives and will be remembered for her willingness to help anyone in need.

Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Irving Stone; son Roy Stone and his wife Sandy; and daughters Betty York and her husband Jim, and Ruth Ann Brown and her special friend Tuck. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Sherry Howard and her special friend Brian, Shawn Stone and his wife Valerie, Adrian Stone and his wife Rebecca, Shannon Robinson and her fiancé Kevin, Damien Stone, Trish Parker and her husband Randy, Lisa Kelly and her special friend Kelly, Jim York Jr., Jason Brown and his wife Debbie; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sisters, Ida Mitchell, Clara Hendricks, Mildred Baker and her husband Earl; and a brother, Walter Littlefield Jr. and his wife Judy.

She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Bessie Littlefield; and siblings Albert Littlefield, Earl Littlefield, Hershal Littlefield, Alice White and Lucretia Gamble.

A memorial service for Ruth will be held Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. at the West Frankfort Fire Department, 291 Swanville Road, Frankfort with Pastor Stephen MacLeod officiating. Family and friends may visit there from 1 p.m. until time of service.

Interment will be in Pilgrim’s Home Cemetery, Monroe. At the conclusion of the interment a reception will be held at the fire station. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in her name, to the West Frankfort Fire Department, 291 Swanville Rd., Frankfort, ME 04438.
