There appears no stopping the talented and deep Camden Hills girls cross-country team, while a budding rivalry for top honors among Midcoast schoolboy runners appears live and well.

That is what one learned from Friday afternoon’s Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference meet hosted by Cony High School of Augusta.

The Camden Hills girls again dominated the competition, even topping Class A opponents, en route to improving on their unbeaten season.

Meanwhile, the race for first in this race among the boys came down to another duel between Belfast’s Luis Mauser and Camden Hills’ Ben Trapani. The two have battled to the finish before earlier this fall, with Trapani winning. This time Mauser finished first, 18:29.82 to 18:31.21.

The girls race was won by Maranacook’s Abby Mace (20:09.25), one of the top few high school female distance runners in the state.

The Camden Hills girls, who had five scoring runners among the top 11, finished with a seven-runner time of 1:52:05.59 and an average runner time of 22:25.12. To show how fast that is, runner-up Hampden Academy had an average runner time of  24:05.60 — nearly two minutes slower.
