The Pancake 5-kilometer road race is in its 18th year, but with a new organizer. For the second time in the race’s history, the reins are transferring from one Waldo County organization to another. This time, the Waldo County YMCA is handing off to the Belfast Rotary Club.

The race will take place Sunday, Oct. 9 at 9 a.m. Following the race, there will be a pancake breakfast at Belfast Area High School.

For runners who register by Saturday, Oct. 8, the $15 registration fee covers the race, and breakfast (those registering by Saturday, Oct. 1 also will get a t-shirt). On-site registration is available on Oct. 9 for $20, and also includes breakfast.

Runners can register at or by going to and following the directions.

On-site registration and check-in is available in the Belfast Area High School lobby from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m.

Breakfast is available for non-runners for $5.

Proceeds will benefit the Belfast Rotary Club youth programs.
