The annual auction to benefit Hospice Volunteers of Waldo County will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, at the UMaine Hutchinson Center, 80 Belmont Ave. (Route 3), Belfast. From 5-7 p.m., there will be a silent auction with food, cash bar and music by Tango. The live auction with auctioneer Rosie Gerry will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Celebrating 30 years of service, HVOWC is best known for the time they spend at the bedside of the terminally ill, and the support they show to the families of caregivers. The Bereavement Program serves people of all ages who have lost a loved one – regardless of whether or not they had hospice services – with support groups and individual support. Hospice Volunteers offers information and support about end-of-life care through teaching programs in the community and through their lending library, which is open to the public.

The silent auction will feature such items as baskets from local businesses and gift certificates. Delvino’s will provide food; the Lookout Pub will run the cash bar.

Tango is the piano/vocal duo of Martin Gottlieb and Kristen Burkholder, specializing in the great American songbook. It “takes two to tango” — hence their name – and for the past six years audiences have responded enthusiastically to the tango played out between Burkholder’s engaging and sometimes humorous delivery with Gottlieb’s sophisticated, sweet accompaniment. With warmth, understanding and style, the songs from days gone by come to life when Tango plays.

The live auction, led by auctioneer veteran Rosie Gerry (a showman and entertainer unto his own self) and his team will feature such items as memberships, homemade treats, artwork, handmade quilts, and a marble purple urn.

If you have an item to donate, or would like to know more about the auction, call the hospice office at 930-2677.
