Alma E. (Cross) Wharton, 88, a resident of Fort Worth, Texas for the past 10 years, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011. Alma was born in Kingman, Kan. on Feb. 13, 1923 and was the daughter of Iva G. and Glennell W. Cross.

She was married to Robert S. Wharton for more than 60 years. He died in 2005. Prior to moving to Texas, Alma lived in Natick, Mass. and vacationed in Lincolnville.

Alma was a graduate of Kingman High School in Kingman, Kan. and was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Natick. She loved to sing hymns and make items for the church bazaar. She was an amazing woman with a sharp, quick wit. Her hobbies included cooking, knitting, sewing, embroidery and making quilts. Her family and friends were often enticed by the aroma of fresh baked bread or some other delicious dish cooking on her stove.

Surviving are her three children, Connie Sullivan of Natick, Mass., Bruce Wharton and his wife Barbara of Dade City, Fla., and Lynn McGrew and her husband Jeff of Woodinville Wash.; seven grandchildren; six great-grand children; a sister, Mary Zakrison and her husband, Donald Zakrison, of Fort Worth, Texas.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 at 10:30 a.m., at the Youngtown Cemetery in Lincolnville, with the Rev. Dr. Susan Stonestreet officiating.
