Penobscot Bay Ringers, the Midcoast’s first and only community handbell choir, will present its second annual Bells by the Bay concert Sunday, Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Camden, 55 Elm St./Route 1. The event will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Midcoast Maine.

The hour-long concert will showcase a variety of familiar tunes, most of which are connected to a water theme. The concert also will feature solo bell ringer Debra Hall of Rockport; and both vocal and tambourine accompaniment by Susan Weber of Union.

In addition, there will be a dedication ceremony for the group’s brand new five octaves of handbells and handchimes, which were purchased in June following Penobscot Bay Ringers’ successful completion of their Malmark Give-A-Bell Campaign. The audience is invited to view all of the instruments and equipment following the performance.

The concert is free of charge and open to all. A free-will offering, to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Midcoast Maine, will be taken at the end of the concert. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m. For more information about this concert or about Penobscot Bay Ringers, contact Leigh Smith at 230-6628 or
