The Mount View boys soccer and Belfast and Mount View field hockey squads continued to surge to the postseason with weekend victories for Waldo County high school teams.

Meanwhile, the Mount View, Belfast and Searsport girls, along with the Searsport boys and Islesboro coed teams, all suffered recent losses. The Searsport boys also salvaged a recent tie.

Field hockey

Mount View 3, Maine Central Institute 0 … At Pittsfield Oct. 7, the Mustangs secured their 10th win of the season, this time over the host Huskies in a game originally scheduled for Oct. 1.

Janelle Thornley scored two goals for Mount View, while Andrea Smith also banged the back of the cage, on an assist from Braley Leadbettter. Abbie Charrier did not see a shot in the cage for Mount View, while Husky goalie Sarah Bennett made 27 saves on 30 shots.

Mount View (10-2-1) is fifth in the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class B, while Nokomis of Newport (12-0-1, 123.2781 points) is first in the 14-team region.

Belfast 5, Maranacook 0 … At Belfast Oct. 8, in a makeup game from Oct. 4, the Lions blanked the visiting Black Bears of Readfield.

Kendra Kirby had two goals to lead the Lions, while Maddy Cummings and Kari Osgood each had one goal and one assist and Lexi Nelligan a goal. Emily Blood, Logan Blood and Britt Mellor also had assists in the victory.

Julia Ward and Sierra Wood combined to make three saves on three shots in the cage for the Lions. Black Bear goalie Amy Groetz had 14 saves on 19 shots.

Belfast (10-0-3) is second in Eastern Class B, while Nokomis (12-0-1, 123.2781 points) is first in the 14-team region.

Boys soccer

Mount View 1, Maranacook 0 … At Readfield Oct. 7, the Mustangs continued to surge to the postseason with a shutout win over the Black Bears.

The two teams looked to be heading to overtime before Kyle Turner took a direct kick from outside the 18-yard line from teammate Aaron Elkins and headed it into the net with 2:39 remaining in regulation to seal the deal for the ‘Stangs.

Chris Montminy made 10 saves in net for Mount View, while A.J. Freeman made four saves for Maranacook. The Black Bears outshot the Mustangs 17-8 and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Mount View (9-2, 66.7857 points) is third in Eastern Class B, while Camden Hills (11-0, 107.1429 points) is first in the 18-team region.

Winslow 2, Belfast 0 … At Winslow Oct. 7, the host Black Raiders blanked the Lions. Additional information was unavailable.

Searsport 2, Deer Isle-Stonington 2 … At Searsport Oct. 5, the Vikings picked up their first tie of the season after drawing even with the Mariners.

Will Hutchinson tallied two goals for the hosts, while Buddy Ellis added an assist. Hayden Ciomei and Ole Bartos each scored for D-IS. Austin Bean made three saves on four shots in net for Searsport, while Hayden Torrey made 10 saves on 22 shots for the Mariners.

Searsport (1-10-1, 1.1480 points) is 17th in Eastern Class C, while Penquis of Milo (10-0-2, 82.5255 points) is first in the 17-team region.

Bangor Christian 12, Searsport 1 … At Searsport Oct. 8, the visitors scored early and often to beat the Vikings. Additional information was unavailable.

Steven Osgood finished with a hat trick for Vinalhaven, while Zeb Campbell added two scores and Dillon Ames, Shane Carlsen, Byron Thomas and Hayden Scieus each creased the net for the visitors.

Islesboro (3-5, 5.9524 points) is 10th in Western Class D, while Richmond (9-2-1, 65.8880 points) is first in the 11-team region. Vinalhaven (6-4, 36.8658 points) is fourth.

Girls soccer

Maranacook 3, Mount View 0 … At Thorndike Oct. 7, the Mustangs continue to struggle through another tough season as they fell to the Black Bears by three goals.

Hannah Clough, Hannah Cumler and Sage Hyland each creased the net for the visitors, while Liz D’Angelo made four saves on eight shots. Amanda Larrabee made nine saves on 16 shots for Mount View, while Maranacook led 2-1 in corner kicks.

Mount View (0-11, no points) is 18th in Eastern Class B, while Hermon (10-1-1, 100.1403 points) is first in the 18-team region.
