Christina Richards Bryant, 92, of Camden, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011 at Windward Gardens in Camden. Born on Maygog Road in Searsmont on March 21, 1919, she was the daughter of George and Abbie Richards.

She attended school in a one-room schoolhouse, which her father helped to build on Ghent Road in Searsmont. She married Gilbert Elden Bryant in 1946 and had been a resident of Camden since the 1940s. Mrs. Bryant was a long-term member of the Chestnut Street Baptist Church in Camden where she was previously active with the Ladies Mission Circle. For a number of years, she worked as the church custodian, and also worked at the 5 & 10 Store when it was owned by the Crockett family. Mrs. Bryant was also a housekeeper, nanny, and a caregiver for various friends and family. She was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her fondest memories were spent with her grandson.

Mrs. Bryant’s hobbies included working with her hands, building and fixing things and making improvements on her home. She enjoyed working for the church, and participating in various church functions. When she was in her 50s she obtained her driver’s license, spending a large amount of her time taking friends on errands and various appointments, claiming that she should help those that she could. She drove until she was in her mid 80s.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1984; her grandson, Gibby Bryant in 2005; her brothers, Bernard, Charles, and Gerald Richards, who all lived until their late 80s and early 90s; her niece, Linda Lee Dodge, daughter to Lloyd and Eliza Richards; a brother, Kenneth, who died at 3 years old; and a sister, Georgianna, who died at 3 months old.

Surviving is her son, Gilbert R. Bryant and his wife, Christine of Camden; two brothers, Roland Richards of Rockport and Lloyd Richards and his wife, Eliza, of Glen Cove; and a sister, Edith Poulin of Satsuma, Fla.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. at the Chestnut Street Baptist Church in Camden with the Rev. Adam Kohlstrom officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery in Camden.
