After weeks of hard work and battling opponents tooth and nail on the pitch, only two of the seven Waldo County high school soccer squads have qualified for the Maine Principals’ Association regional tournaments, set to begin this weekend.

The Mount View and Belfast boys have qualified for the playoffs. That leaves other Waldo County teams, such as the Searsport boys and girls, Islesboro boys/coed and Mount View and Belfast girls on the outside looking in.

For the upcoming regional tournaments, the Heal Point Standings reveal positive news for two local squads. The following are the standings and playoff pairings for area teams:

Mount View (11-3, 108.9286 points) finished fifth and Belfast (7-6-1, 61.1607 points) eighth in Eastern Class B, an 18-team region. The top 12 teams qualify for the postseason, with the top four receiving prelim playoff byes. Thus, both the Mustangs and Lions will play prelim playoff games, probably on Saturday, Oct. 22. Mount View will host No. 12 Caribou (5-9, 43.1122 points) at 2 p.m. and Belfast will host No. 9 John Bapst of Bangor (5-6-3, 54.9107 points) at 4 p.m. If the Waldo County teams win their prelim games, Mount View will play at No. 4 Winslow (11-3, 118.7500 points) and Belfast will play at No. 1 Camden Hills (14-0, 161.6071 points) on Wednesday, Oct. 26 in quarterfinal playoff games. During the regular season, the Waldo County squads did not play either John Bapst or Caribou, but Mount View lost 3-2 to Winslow and Belfast lost 2-0 to Camden Hills.

Searsport (1-12-1, 1.1480 points) finished 17th (last) in Eastern Class C. Penquis Valley of Milo (12-0-2, 129.9745 points) finished first. The top 11 teams qualify for the playoffs. The Vikings did not qualify.
