The end of the road — and season — came for the Mount View and Oceanside high school field hockey teams on a wet Tuesday in Eastern Class B quarterfinal playoff games.

No. 4 Mount View (11-3-1) lost to No. 5 Winslow (12-3) 1-0 in Thorndike and No. 8 Oceanside (9-7) fell to No. 1, defending state Class B champion, Nokomis (15-0-1 overall) 6-0 in Newport.

That means the only Midcoast high school field hockey squad still playing in the regional tournament is No. 3 Belfast (11-1-3), which will be at No. 2 John Bapst of Bangor on Saturday, Oct. 22 in the semifinals. The Lions defeated No. 6 Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft 1-0 in overtime and penalty corners in the quarterfinals.

Oceanside did beat No. 9 Waterville (7-9) 1-0 in a prelim playoff game Oct. 17. During the regular season, Oceanside lost to Nokomis 3-1 and Mount View lost to Winslow 4-3.

This season in all countable games (regular season, regional and league playoffs), Belfast outscored foes 38-8, including recording eight shutouts, and was shut out three times. Mount View outscored foes 48-8, with 10 shutouts and was shut out three times. Oceanside outscored opponents 41-25, with five shutouts and was shut out four times.
