River Arts, 170 Main St./Business Route 1, invited the public to the opening reception of its “Small Works” exhibition Friday, Nov. 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition, which will hang until Dec. 1, will display 140 two- and three-dimensional works by 70 Maine artists from Bailey’s Island to Winter Harbor.

The show, to be presented at the River Arts main gallery, contains all media and styles including photography, sculpture, collage and abstract, among others. Midcoast artists whose works were selected for the show include Betsy Headley of Belfast; Joan Siem of Camden; Elaine Niemi and Brian Woods of Friendship; Elizabeth O’Haverty of Hope; Ian Bruce of Northport; Catherine Leroy, Bill Ronalds, William S. Jackson and Deborah Winship of Rockland; Laura Freeman, Christina Barstow and Catherine Eagleson of Rockport; Edith LaRoche of Searsmont; Luise van Keuren of Spruce Head; Geoff Bladon, Victoria Pittman and Hannelore Nelsbach of Tenants Harbor; Roberta Goschke, Jean Kigel, Ralph Bush and Richard Horton of Waldoboro; Jay Sawyer of Warren; and Robert Richardson and Lois Hill of Washington.

Juror for “Small Works” is noted sculptor and collage artist Marylin Quint-Rose of Tenants Harbor. Born in Boston and a longtime resident of Maine, Quint-Rose received her MFA from the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College. As a faculty member of the School of the Worcester Art Museum in Massachusetts, she became interested in paper sculpture and the making of handmade paper. She has directed numerous workshops and residencies throughout New England and has been a guest artist at University of Rhode Island, Holy Cross and Massachusetts College of Art.

River Arts is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. The exhibition program consists of 10 juried shows open for entry by any artist in Maine.
