Roscoe C. Varney, 62, of Birch Point Road, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Stockton Springs on March 4, 1949, a son of George C. and Sarah V. (Sawyer) Varney.

He graduated from Searsport High School in 1967 and attended Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute. He was employed at Searsport Water District and then was the superintendent of the Wiscasset Water District for 19 years where he was extremely instrumental in bringing the water district from a rock building to what it is today.

On Oct. 14, 2000 he married his wife, Susan.

In October of 2004 he was employed at Chesterfield Associates. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Searsport, the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine and a charter member of the Wiscasset Lions Club. Ross was always there to help people out with whatever they needed. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time at his camp with dear friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Susan M. Varney of Wiscasset; his mother, Sarah Varney of Wiscasset; two sons, Scott C. Varney of Swanville and Mark A. Varney and his wife Stacey of Fiskdale, Mass.; two stepdaughters, Jessica L. Morris and her husband Sean of Edmund, Okla. and Janelle H. Skillin of Barters Island; two brothers, Dennis Varney and his wife Judy of Ellington, Conn., and Bill Varney and his wife Lisa of Lewiston; one sister, Elizabeth Danforth and her husband Daniel of Frankfort; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, George C. Varney; one sister, Helen Yorks; and one daughter-in-law, Tracy Varney.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m., at the Wiscasset Yacht Club, Water Street, Wiscasset. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery at a later date.
