Retired Captain Paul H. Jacobs, U.S. Navy, will speak at the next meeting of the Propeller Club of Searsport/Bucksport on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m.. He will present a viewing of “The Lucky Few,” a video documentary of the evacuation of South Vietnam.
In the spring of 1975, as Saigon fell and the Vietnam War ended, his ship the USS Kirk was chosen to go back to Vietnam, by itself, on a mission to rescue the remnants of the South Vietnamese Navy, and along with it tens of thousands of refugees, to prevent them from being captured by North Vietnamese forces.
The meeting will be held at the Belfast Shriner’s Club, located on Northport Avenue in across from the Belfast City Park. The cost of the dinner is $25; reservations are required and can be made by calling Betty at 548-1077.
